Map Downloading Basics
This page will give you an overview of what the MapServer can offer. For
more in-depth information please use the Fast Links section on the right, or
use the links contained within this page.
Map types and coverage
The Anquet MapServer allows a user to select and purchase exactly the
mapping that
they require fr
om
a large selection of
different map types.
When purchasing maps, the Anquet software can show the coverage available
and also the mapping that
a user already ha
s
to avoid duplicating map purchases. More can be read about map coverage
here.
MapServer Pricing
The MapServer prices mapping per square kilometre. The more mapping
purchased of the same map type at any one time,
the cheaper additional square kilometres of mapping will be. Costs are only
applied to distinct mapping at the time of purchase, so if you have defined
two maps in your basket that overlap, you will only be charged once for the
overlap. More about map download pricing can be read
here. Maps can be purchased from £10.
Advantages of Downloading Maps
Most of these are well described at the top of
the panel to the right. However a few points are worth expanding on:
Seamless Maps – Any maps that you have, either from CD
or download will seamlessly match up into one large map. So if you have a CD
that doesn’t quite have the extent that you require or you wish you had
defined a larger area to download, you can extend it simply by buying more
data by download. If downloads and/or CD’s overlap, Anquet will only display
the newest data.
All backed up – The Anquet MapServer keeps a record of
all the maps that you have ever purchased within your online account. If you
buy a new PC, simply download the Anquet software, log in to your account
and re-download your maps. No more trying to find the CDs! For more details
on map updates, please see here. More about
re-downloading your maps can be read about
here.
Map Manager Free Trial
Downloading the Anquet software and sample maps is free. You can also try
your hand at the complete purchase process at no cost using the 10m aerial
photography. More about this can be read
here.
Downloading the Anquet Software
To get started with the Anquet MapServer, you simply need to download the
Anquet software from here.
During installation of the software, you will be guided through creating a
free account on the Anquet MapServer. Alternatively, if you already have an
account on the Anquet website, just enter those details when the software
starts up.
Connecting to the MapServer
The Anquet Software connects over standard internet protocols to the
MapServer. You must be connected to the MapServer to use the map download
service. More about checking you are connected can be read
here.
Selecting and Purchasing mapping
There are three ways to buy mapping from the Anquet Map Server:
Cut your own
– This allows you draw out an area on an overview map
using overlapping rectangles and then purchase and
download it. As you add mapping, the chargeable price will be updated
in real-time from the MapServer.
Popular map
boundaries – This is similar to Cut your own, but instead of
you drawing out the area of mapping you wish to purchase, you can use
popularly defined areas, such as areas that exactly match the Ordnance
Survey Explorer paper maps.
Anquet’s
favourite map bundles – These are sets of maps that create a
product, and are given a set price. All of our CD products are contained
here for download. So for instance, an Explorer map bundle would include
pre-defined Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map data, height data, find place
information, etc.
Security
All credit card details are passed across industry standard SSL encrypted
links to our payment provider. Anquet only stores the last four digits of
each credit card transaction to aid in identifying transactions when
necessary. (e.g. our system store that a payment was made by ‘Mr Smith’
using credit card ‘**** **** **** 4020’)All other details such as the
security code, expiry dates and the rest of the credit card number are
passed straight to our payment provider, and are never stored on any Anquet
systems.
