Levels of Anquet Users
We generally find users falling into three broad categories which are
listed below:
The Replacement Paper Map User
With Anquet it it’s easy to find a location by grid reference or place
name search and then instantly display the relevant map on
screen. Press
the print button, and you have your own personalised map, which looks
exactly like its paper equivalent. You can also print the map at any scale
you chose, which is a real advantage over standard paper maps if you eye
sight isn’t quite what it used to be!
It’s this ease of access and the ability to print maps whenever you
need, that wins so many users to the Anquet system. For some users, this is
all they ever do with Anquet, and matched up with the trusty compass, it’s a
perfect place to stop for many.
However, most new users progress to plotting their own routes with
Anquet. It’s so simple to do with just a few clicks of the mouse, and yet
brings such advantages. Once a route has been drawn, you can easily view
such items as length and height ascent. An estimated time is calculated for
your route, which can be customised to your walking speed. All of this
information can be printed on the map, along with of course the route
itself. Viewing the Path Profile is just a click of the mouse to help you
assess the route.
The GPS User
One of the common question to Anquet support is ‘Which GPS do you
recommend for me?’ It’s a natural progression for many once they have
started to use digital mapping.
Whilst a modern GPS unit can be programmed by hand, it’s a very fiddly
and error prone process trying to input grid references into a mobile phone
size unit. With Anquet this becomes a breeze. Just plot your route and/or
add waypoints to the map in Anquet, then simply save these to your GPS unit.
With this data on the GPS unit, you can now navigate safely with the device
secure in the knowledge that the waypoints are correctly in your GPS unit.
We would of course still recommend that you take your printed map with you.
One of the joys of the modern GPS unit is the tracklog. In simple terms
it’s a Hansel and Gretel breadcrumb trail that the GPS collects as you walk.
When you return home, simply connect your GPS unit to your PC, and let
Anquet ‘read’ the tracklog from the GPS. You can now view where you walked
in Anquet, add photos and notes, and save the route for another day.
The Pocket Anquet User
This is the exciting end of the technology, allowing users to take their
maps and routes into the field on the latest generation of Microsoft enabled
Smartphones and Pocket PCs. Watching your position move on an OS map as you
walk really does make your own navigation so much easier.
Pocket Anquet is a cut down version of our PC based software, making it
very easy for users to be quickly at home with the interface and functions.
Pocket Anquet reads the same map and route files that the PC software does,
allowing you to simply plot a route on the PC where you have access to a
larger screen, and then download your route to Pocket Anquet to take out
with you. Pocket Anquet also has full route editing functions for last
minute alterations!
With the route and maps on Pocket Anquet, you can watch your position
move in realtime on the mapping, and use the compass and navigation screens
to navigate your route.
